IMS member Lydia Suzanne Gibson was among the winners of the American Statistical Association’s travel awards, covering their registration and travel in order to attend the ASA Conference on Statistical Practice (https://ww2.amstat.org/meetings/csp/2023/) which took place in San Francisco from February 2–4, 2023. Lydia won the Lingzi Lu Memorial Award, which was created by the ASA in partnership with the International Chinese Statistical Association in remembrance of Lingzi Lu, the first-year student in the statistics master’s program at Boston University who lost her life in the bombing at the Boston Marathon in April of 2013.

Lydia Suzanne Gibson is a master’s student in statistics at California State University, East Bay. She co-founded the CSU East Bay’s student chapter of the ASA and advocates for students to become involved in, or start their own, student chapter.
