Funding is available from the U.S. National Science Foundation for a block travel grant to help in defraying the travel costs of junior researchers, women, and members of underrepresented minorities from the United States participating in the 8th World Congress on Probability and Statistics, July 9—14, in Istanbul, Turkey.

Details of the meeting can be found at the conference webpage: http://www.worldcong2012.org/

Junior researchers are those who received their PhDs in 2006 or later, or who are advanced graduate students working on PhD dissertations. All applicants must be affiliated with a U.S. institution, reside in the U.S., and not have an individual NSF grant. Following standard NSF restrictions concerning travel, recipients of travel grant funds for airfare must travel on U.S. carriers. All grant recipients must provide receipts for expenses to be reimbursed, whether for airfare, lodging or subsistence, and the receipt must show that you paid. These will need to be submitted after the conference and without delay by mail with the UC Santa Barbara travel form which can be found on line at http://www.pstat.ucsb.edu/forms/TRAVELWORKSHEET-WCPS%202012.pdf

Applications received by March 15, 2012, will receive full consideration. Applications will be reviewed by a committee consisting of selected past and current U.S. members of the Committee for Conferences on Stochastic Processes. It is anticipated that applicants will be notified of the results of their applications on or before April 15, 2012.

Each application must include items 1-5 below in the form of one single pdf file:

1. A statement that the applicant meets the eligibility criteria given above.
2. A two page vita including education (all applicants except current PhD students should include PhD year, institution and dissertation title), current position, current research interests, complete list of publications.
3. Expected level of participation at the conference, e.g., will give a talk or have submitted an abstract for a contributed talk (include title and abstract).
4. Complete mailing address and e-mail address.
5. Any federal research or other grants held, and any travel funds applied for.
6. In addition, advanced PhD student applicants should have their dissertation advisor send a brief letter of recommendation directly by email to wcps@pstat.ucsb.edu.

Those who are eligible and who wish to be considered for travel support should send their applications in the form of one single pdf file by e-mail, to wcps@pstat.ucsb.edu. After the meeting, travel forms and receipts must be sent promptly by mail to
