The International Statistical Institute (ISI) will hold its 58th World Statistics Congress (WSC) in Dublin, Ireland, from 21-26 August 2011

In connection to this event, the ISI announces the Jan Tinbergen Competition among young statisticians from developing countries. They are invited to submit a paper on any topic within the broad field of statistics, for possible presentation at the Dublin WSC.

Participation in the competition is open to nationals of developing countries who are also residing in a developing country and were born in 1979 or later. The list of developing countries can be found at http://isi-web.org/developing

Papers submitted must be unpublished original works that may include material from participants’ university theses. The papers submitted will be examined by an International Jury of distinguished statisticians who will select the three best papers presented in the competition. The Jury’s decision is final. Previous winners of the award are not allowed to compete again.

Each author of a winning paper will receive the Jan Tinbergen Award in the amount of € 2269 and be invited to present his or her paper at the Dublin WSC, with all expenses paid (i.e. round trip economy class airline ticket from his/her place of residence to Dublin plus a per diem to cover living expenses).

Papers for the Competition should be submitted by 1st of March 2011 to the ISI Permanent Office via e‑mail: isi@cbs.nl with the Subject “Tinbergen”.

The rules governing the preparation of papers, application forms and full details are available at: http://isi.cbs.nl/tinbergen/2011papers.htm
