The Department of Statistics at Texas A&M University will host the CBMS Conference — Foundations of Causal Graphical Models and Structure Discovery from May 15 to May 19, 2023 supported by the National Science Foundation (NSF DMS-2227849) and Texas A&M Institute for Applied Mathematics and Computational Science (IAMCS). Causal discovery is becoming increasingly more popular in both statistics and machine learning. It is a great tool to generate causal hypotheses and to bring new insights into existing association-based methods. Dr. Kun Zhang from the Department of Philosophy, Carnegie Mellon University and the Department of Machine Learning, Mohamed bin Zayed University of Artificial Intelligence, will deliver ten lectures on causal discovery. Tentatively, he will cover representations and usage of causal models, how causality is different from and connected to association, recent machine learning methods for causal discovery, and why and how the causal perspective helps in a number of learning tasks. Registration is due April 30. Application for travel support is due March 15.
